James A. Peterson, 57, of Fort Dodge, died January 7, 2008, at his home.

Services will be 11 a.m. on Friday, January 11, at the Evangelical Mennonite Church. Cremation will follow the service. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856. The visitation is Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

James is survived by his wife Teresa; his son Benjamin; his brother Larry, Fort Dodge; his aunt Norma Breon; his special cousins, Bruce, Dale, Sandra, Mike, Carol, Julie, Janet and Paula; and his close friends, Carroll, William, Jay and Jessie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hillis and Anita Peterson.

James Alan Peterson was born June 2, 1950, in Fort Dodge. As a youth, he lived in Fort Dodge and Garden Grove, CA. He returned to Fort Dodge, graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1968. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a radioman on an amphibious landing craft. He received a combat action ribbon with four bronze stars. After returning home, he went to work at Carnation (Friskies) where he remained for more than 20 years. On May 28, 2005, Jim was united in marriage to Teresa Calmer in Fort Dodge.

Jim has survived many hard times in his life except his battle with cancer. His humor will be missed by all who knew him.

I knew Jim as a friend and school mate while growing up in Fort Dodge.  I'm very sorry to hear of his passing.
