MEMORIAL:

Ronnie Otto Dencklau, 67, of Vincent, passed away suddenly on Monday, February 26, 2018, at home, of a heart attack.


Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 2, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike Carmody officiating. Interment will be in Colfax Township Cemetery near Vincent with full military honors conducted VFW Post 1856 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Ronnie, the son of Otto E. Dencklau Jr. and Delores Dencklau, was born October 2, 1950. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1968. He enlisted in the Army National Guard, and served from December 26, 1969 until December 25, 1975, as an ammo storage specialist. Ronnie was united in marriage to Sherry Passow, the daughter of Dale and Bonnie Passow, on March 18, 1978. The couple lived in the rural Vincent area until they bought a home in the city of Vincent in 1987.

 


Ronnie is survived by his wife, Sherry; children, Tina (Luke) Sankey, Tanya (Tim) Schultz, Bonnie (Jeremy) Osmera; 14 grandchildren, his brother Randy, and his sister Renee (Terry) Schulz. Ronnie was preceded in death by his father, father-in-law, brothers-in-law, Paul Passow, Robert Passow, sisters-in-law Cynthia (Don) Hiller and Stacy Passow.

Ronnie retired from Americold Storage in 2013, after 34 years on the job. Ronnie enjoyed making and building things out of wood. He learned many of his carpentry skills from his Uncle Ralph Michehl and Darrel Dencklau, as he worked as a carpenter for them after the National Guard and before starting work at Cold Storage. Ronnie could fix just about anything with self-taught mechanical skills, and sometimes fabricated his own parts or tools to do the job.

Ronnie loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed being out on his brother-in-law Joe (Linda) Passow’s acreage doing gardening with them, and spent much of his retired time with them having fun. Ronnie leaves behind lots of friends and family who will miss him dearly as he spent his free time with those he loved.
