MEMORIAL:

Rodney Allan Walker, 69, passed away November 27, 2019 at his home.

Rodney was born November 8, 1950 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Delbert and Lila Walker. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1968, moved to Des Moines in 1970. Rodney was a journeyman painter for Local #246 and also served in Washington, DC for the International Union. He served as Secretary/Treasurer for Iowa Building Trades, held office for the Des Moines Urban Renewal Board, was a lobbyist for the state of Iowa, was business manager for the Union Working Employee’s at Drake University and was business manager for Tradesmen Credit Union, and renamed Journey Community Credit Union.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Deborah Walker, married August 23, 1969 in Fort Dodge, Iowa; mother, Lila Drollinger from Fort Dodge, Iowa; brother, Joel Walker from Grimes, Iowa; sister, Paula (Walker) Gawtry from Ankeny, Iowa. Rodney and Deborah have three children, Jillonne Walker from Fort Dodge, Iowa, Joelle (Walker) Edmonds from Island Lake, Illinois and Ryan R. Walker from Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert Walker from Fort Dodge, Iowa.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 1 pm to 3 pm Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

Memorial contributions may be directed to John Stoddard Cancer Center at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa.
