MEMORIAL:

Richard “Rick” Nelson, 73, of Fort Dodge, died October 18, 2023, at Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Interment will be held in North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 23, at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Richard Raymond Nelson, son of LeRoy and Ella Mae (Blunt) Nelson, was born April 20, 1950, in Fort Dodge. He was a 1968 graduate of Fort Dodge Senior High School. Over the years Rick was employed at Hormel’s, Cold Storage, National Gypsum and Union Cab. Rick married Karen Etzel on May 22, 1976.

Rick was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Noon Lion’s Club. He loved being with and supporting his grandchildren in their activities. Rick was an Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed woodworking. His knitted hats are Christmas gifts that all his family will cherish. He was loved and will be greatly missed by his family and grandpets Boston and Mittens.

Those to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years Karen, his children, Mary (Karry) Auten, Jodi (Joe) Chada, Jana, and Jeff; grandchildren Kristi (Casey), Lori (D.J.), Jerry, Janelle, Jarrod, and great grandchildren J.J., David, and William, his sister-in-law Clara Etzel and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patsy (Richard) Davidson, infant brother Dennis and brothers-in-law Robert and Jack Etzel.
