MEMORIAL:

John William Flattery passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022, in the comfort of his family's love. He was born on May 25, 1949, to Richard and Mary (Morrow) Flattery in Fort Dodge, Iowa. His family farmed in the Vincent area, but they moved to Fort Dodge before he started school. He attended Catholic Schools in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1969. He was drafted into the Army and served two years as a Military Policeman. He met his wife Susan (Schultz) when he returned home, and they married on April 8, 1972. They moved to the Duncombe area in 1986. John enjoyed many occupations such as working for Hormels and Umthum Trucking but he enjoyed farming most of all. He retired due to health issues in 2010.


John enjoyed going to the grandkid's activities and car races in Fort Dodge and Webster City where his grandson announced. He raised pigeons and was part of North Central Iowa Pigeon Club. John enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother when Robert was home.


John is survived by his wife, Susan; sons Matthew (Jocelyn), Sioux City, Nathan of Dallas, Texas, daughter Jenny (Jon) Jermeland of Webster City, 8 grandchildren, brother Robert (Brenda) of Indiana, sister Roseann Vinsand of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother Richard, and their infant son.


Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 8th at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will at Corpus Christi Cemetery with Military Rites Conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Laufersweiler Funeral Home.
